Sewer mains and manholes, which are owned by municipalities, require inspections. There are two main reasons for inspection- one is preventative, and encompasses inspection for leaks (this type of inspection is mandatory) and the other is for maintenance. Sewer mains can develop blockages, leaks, or cracks, that can leech pollution into water, which is not a positive scenario. We inspect using CCTV, and employ 3D scanning and mapping of manholes/sewers via our “Pipecrawler” robot. This data is collected on-site at the time of inspection, and is of course integrated into GIS, with reports available online. Once mapped and integrated into GIS, each site can be monitored through the urban asset management and monitoring systems.
