INTUS Smartcities Provisionally Awarded $50.4 Million in BEAD Funding to Connect 10,672 Locations in California
AMADOR, CA & CALAVERAS, CA
INTUS Smartcities is honored to announce it has been selected for a provisional grant award of $50,432,882.92 by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) pending decision by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The award is a key component of the state’s historic Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, which leverages over $1.8 billion federal allocation funds to build a more connected and competitive future for the state.
The funding to INTUS Smartcities will enable the construction of a state-of-the-art, last-mile fiber network to connect 10,672 unserved and underserved homes and businesses across Amador and Calaveras Counties. This project directly supports the CPUC’s goal of ensuring every Californian has access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet, a crucial step for economic progress and community well-being.
“This award represents a major milestone for INTUS Smartcities and a strong vote of confidence from the California Public Utilities Commission,” said Alexia Agouridis, President of INTUS Smartcities. “With more than $50 million in funding, we will deliver high-speed fiber access to over 10,000 homes and businesses, expanding opportunity in communities that have long been underserved. Reliable broadband is essential infrastructure, and we’re committed to building a network that supports education, healthcare access, economic growth, and long-term resilience across California.”
Powering California’s Economic and Social Future
The deployment of this fiber network is a foundational investment in the future of California. By delivering high-speed connectivity, this project will unlock critical opportunities for residents, including access to telehealth services, expanded remote education possibilities for students, and new avenues for local entrepreneurs and remote workers to participate in the global economy. This is a direct investment in the long-term prosperity and resilience of the communities we will serve.
A Vertically Integrated Approach to Delivery
To execute this project with the highest standards of quality and accountability, INTUS will deploy its vertically integrated ecosystem of technology and operational platforms. This holistic approach ensures excellence at every stage of the project lifecycle.
-
Precision Planning and Digital Asset Management (GDIC): The project’s foundation is our Geospatial Data Integration Center (GDIC). By creating a precise “digital twin” of the project area before construction, we can design the safest and most efficient fiber routes, proactively de-risking the build and protecting existing public and private utility infrastructure. Post-construction, this digital blueprint becomes a permanent asset for long-term network management and maintenance.
-
Transparent and Efficient Execution (CORE): The logistics of the build-out will be managed by our CORE (Centralized Operations Resource Environment) system. This system provides end-to-end operational transparency, streamlining everything from crew dispatch and materials inventory to real-time progress reporting. This ensures full accountability and allows us to be responsible stewards of public funds while keeping the project on schedule.
-
Community Investment and Workforce Development (CUTI): A core part of our mission is to build lasting value within the communities we serve. Through our CUTI (Connected Utilities Technologies Infrastructure Center) training initiative, we will partner with local organizations to develop a skilled workforce. This program creates sustainable career pathways for residents in the high-demand telecommunications field, ensuring the economic benefits of this investment remain in California.
INTUS will meet BEAD requirements and the state’s monitoring framework, including reporting, cybersecurity and supply chain risk controls, milestone tracking, and documentation specified for subgrantees.
The project will utilize INTUS Smartcities’ advanced technology for digital infrastructure mapping and a strong focus on infrastructure damage prevention through its global “Safe Dig” initiative. This ensures the project is completed safely, efficiently, and with the highest quality standards.
