INTUS Smartcities selected as a South Carolina BEAD finalist to deliver fiber to 325 locations

UNION, SC

INTUS Smartcities has been identified by the Office of Regulatory Staff – South Carolina as a BEAD finalist. The state’s finalist table lists INTUS Smartcities, Inc. for $2,553,850 to extend fiber service to 325 broadband serviceable locations.

South Carolina named 16 internet service providers as BEAD finalists with a combined $41,358,389 to reach 20,480 locations statewide. The state’s BEAD Final Proposal explains that provisional selections become final following NTIA approval. Construction for the final BEAD locations is expected to begin after NTIA approval in early 2026 and complete in 2030.

We are thrilled to be a part of South Carolina’s vision for a fully connected future,” said Alexia Agouridis (President, INTUS Smartcities). “This project with the Office of Regulatory Staff South Carolina allows us to bring our expertise in building and managing advanced fiber networks to communities that need it most. We are committed to providing reliable, high speed internet that will unlock new opportunities for residents and businesses.

South Carolina’s BEAD allocation is $551,535,983. The Final Proposal indicates South Carolina will use a portion of this amount to finish the remaining unserved and underserved locations.

What INTUS Will Deliver

INTUS Smartcities will manage the entire end-to-end process of connecting these 325 South Carolina homes. Our approach is founded on a digital-first strategy that ensures precision, safety, and long-term reliability.

The foundation of this project is our Geospatial Data Integration Center (GDIC) program. Before any construction begins, GDIC will create a highly detailed “digital twin” of the service area. This virtual model integrates all existing utility data, allowing our engineers to design the most efficient and least disruptive fiber routes with precision. This proactive, data-driven approach de-risks the project, preventing potential conflicts with existing infrastructure and ensuring a safe, streamlined build-out from day one.

With this digital blueprint in place, our construction teams will extend the main fiber network into the neighborhoods. The final and most important step is the connection to the home, where our technicians will run a dedicated line, install the exterior terminal, and set up the in-home router, verifying its performance on the spot.

Our commitment doesn’t end once the service is active. The GDIC platform will serve as a permanent, living digital blueprint of the new network. This provides a single source of truth for all infrastructure assets, enabling proactive maintenance, rapid troubleshooting, and ensuring the long-term integrity and reliability of the fiber network for the entire community. It’s how we guarantee the network is not just built to last, but is also managed intelligently for the future.

Compliance and risk controls

INTUS will meet BEAD requirements and the state’s monitoring framework, including reporting, cybersecurity and supply chain risk controls, milestone tracking, and documentation specified for subgrantees through its sister-company, CORE.

The project will utilize INTUS Smartcities’ advanced technology for digital infrastructure mapping and a strong focus on infrastructure damage prevention through its global “Safe Dig” initiative. This ensures the project is completed safely, efficiently, and with the highest quality standards.

Investing in the Community

INTUS Smartcities believes that building infrastructure is also about building local opportunity. As part of our commitment to South Carolina, we will develop local human resources through a new branch of our acclaimed training initiative, CUTI (Connected Utilities Technologies Infrastructure Center). This program will provide residents with certified training for high-demand roles in the utility and telecommunications sectors, creating a skilled local workforce capable of maintaining and expanding the very network we are building. This ensures the economic benefits of this project remain firmly within the community.
