Connecting The County: Our BEAD Program Vision for Maine

INTUS Smartcities is excited to announce our application to the BEAD program, which aims to bring vital high-speed fiber internet to nearly 16,000 homes in Northern Maine. Our plan is focused on ensuring that Maine’s most rugged and rural communities have the world-class infrastructure they deserve.

A Focus on Aroostook County

Our three project areas are targeted at the heart of “The County”—Houlton, Fort Kent, Caribou, and surrounding communities in Aroostook County. We understand this region’s unique character, defined by its vast forests, proud agricultural heritage, and resilient spirit. Our network is designed to support this way of life, helping local businesses compete, connecting families, and providing the infrastructure needed to keep Northern Maine vibrant and competitive for decades to come.

Project by the Numbers

Our pre-approved applications reflect a deep commitment to the region:

  • Total Project Value: $64,661,379.95
  • BEAD Funding Requested: $48,496,034.96
  • Community Priority: More than 80% of the project build is focused on connecting unserved and underserved homes.

More Than a Network: A Commitment to Maine’s Workforce

We believe that building in a community means investing in its people. We are actively engaged in partnerships and conversations with local leaders across Maine to ensure our project aligns with their goals.

Through our partnership with the CUTI Centre, we are dedicated to creating local jobs. Our plan includes hiring from the local workforce for both the construction and ongoing maintenance of the network. We will also collaborate with regional stakeholders to create training programs that build valuable, long-term careers right here in Maine.

This isn’t just about broadband; it’s about providing the tools for opportunity, equity, and a sustainable future for Northern Maine.
